On 24 June 2026, a devastating double earthquake struck Venezuela, causing widespread destruction across Greater Caracas and La Guaira. Hundreds of people lost their lives, more than 1,500 were injured, and thousands of families were left without safe housing, basic services, and reliable means of recovery.
In the weeks since the disaster, the Salesians of Don Bosco have been working alongside affected communities, providing emergency assistance and support to families most impacted by the earthquakes.
Through the latest phase of the response, 208 families, representing 832 people, received food, hygiene and medicine kits, as well as access to clean drinking water and psychosocial support. Children also benefited from recreational and educational activities designed to help them process the trauma of the disaster and regain a sense of normality.
To date, the Salesian response has reached more than 3,800 people across multiple communities. Support has included food assistance, hygiene supplies, emergency relief, shelter support, and care for vulnerable families, children, older adults, and those connected to local Salesian works.
Relief efforts continue as communities begin the long process of rebuilding their lives and recovering from the impact of the earthquakes.
