Every young person deserves a safe place to call home, access to education, and the opportunity to build a brighter future.
For decades, the Salesians of Don Bosco have provided that opportunity through the Don Bosco Boys’ Home in Liloan, Cebu. More than a boarding facility, the Boys’ Home offers young people a stable environment where they can continue their education, develop life skills, and prepare for adulthood.
The Boys’ Home sits within a larger Salesian community that includes a vocational training centre, a public school, a chapel and community facilities. Together, these services help ensure young people have the support they need to learn, grow and thrive.
What stands out most is the Salesians’ commitment to caring for the whole person. When boys return home during holidays, staff often send food with them to help support not only the young person, but their family as well. It is a simple gesture that reflects a deep understanding of the challenges many families face.
Alongside the Boys’ Home, the Salesians operate a vocational training centre offering free courses in carpentry, welding and machining. Young people gain practical skills that can lead directly to employment, with local businesses working alongside the Salesians to help graduates find work.
Today, 63 boys call the Don Bosco Boys’ Home home. While there is capacity to support more young people, additional resources are needed to provide the qualified social workers and pastoral care that help ensure each boy receives the care and support he needs.
With greater support, the Salesians hope to welcome more young people into the program, giving them access to a safe home, an education and the opportunities they need to build a brighter future.
