Families in Poipet, Cambodia, continue to face enormous hardship as the ongoing border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand impacts local livelihoods and access to basic necessities.
Many parents of students at Don Bosco School have lost work as businesses close and economic activity slows. For families already living on limited incomes, providing food, healthcare and educational support has become increasingly difficult.
In response, the Salesians of Don Bosco are providing practical assistance to students and their families through daily meals, food support and essential medical assistance. The goal is simple: ensure children can remain healthy, stay in school and continue working towards a brighter future.
The need is significant. During the current school year, support has included daily lunches for students, food assistance for families and help with essential medical expenses. For many children, a nutritious meal at school not only improves their health but also their ability to learn and participate in class.
As Fr. Roel Soto SDB explains:
“Your support helps children to remain in school, receive nutritious meals, and help families facing the greatest hardship.”
The community response has already been encouraging. A recent local fundraising appeal raised more than $12,000, providing immediate support for students and families affected by the border conflict. These funds will help ensure that food and essential medicines continue to reach those most in need.
But the challenges facing families remain ongoing. Don Bosco School is seeking to provide daily meals for 150 students and support for 180 families throughout the coming school year.
“Your kindness reminds them that they are not forgotten or alone,” says Fr. Roel.
“A meal for a hungry child, assistance for a struggling family, or simply knowing that someone cares can bring comfort, dignity, encouragement and hope.”
