Students from Australia recently joined students at Don Bosco Technical School in Fatumaca, Timor-Leste, for three days during their Immersion program. The visit gave both groups a chance to learn from each other, work together, and build new friendships.
One of the main activities was helping to repair and paint a classroom that had become old and worn over time. The classroom is used by many students each day and needed improvement.
With support from Salesian Missions Australia, the students worked side by side to clean, prepare, and paint the classroom. What was once a tired and damaged learning space was given a fresh new look.
The project was more than just painting walls. It gave young people from both countries the opportunity to work together as a team and make a real difference. The improved classroom will provide a safer and more pleasant place for learning for the 228 students who use it.
Australian participant Rachael said that spending time with the students helped her see life from a different perspective. She noted that she “enjoyed planting banana trees and painting the classroom because it was rewarding to see the results of everyone’s teamwork.”
The freshly repaired classroom will stand as a practical reminder of what can be achieved when young people work together in service of others.
